UFS v5.0/UFSHCI v5.0 adds HS-G6 support (46.6 Gbps/lane) via UniPro v3.0
and M-PHY v6.0. These specs define TX Equalization for all High-Speed Gears
(not only HS-G6) to compensate channel loss and improve signal integrity at
high speed.
For HS-G6, M-PHY uses PAM4 1b1b line coding. Pre-Coding may also be
required depending on channel characteristics.
Document vendor-neutral properties in ufs-common.yaml:
- txeq-preshoot-g[1-6]
- txeq-deemphasis-g[1-6]
- tx-precode-enable-g6
Values are per-lane Host/Device tuples (2 values for x1, 4 values for
x2). PreShoot/DeEmphasis range from 0..7, and Precode is 0/1.
These are board-specific signal-integrity tuning values. They depend on
channel SI/PHY characterization and validation (host PHY, device PHY,
package, and board routing), and are determined by HW/PHY designers.
Although UFSHCI v5.0 supports TX Equalization Training via UniPro v3.0,
which allows host software to determine optimal TX Equalization at
runtime, static board-specific TX Equalization settings in the Device
Tree are still necessary because:
- TX Equalization Training is not supported for HS-G3 and below
- TX Equalization Training is disabled on some platforms

SA8797P is the automotive variant of the Nord SoC. Like SA8255P, its
platform firmware implements an SCMI server that manages UFS resources
such as the PHY, clocks, regulators and resets via the SCMI power
protocol. As a result, the OS-visible DT only describes the controller's
MMIO, interrupt, IOMMU and power-domain interfaces, making SA8255P the
appropriate fallback compatible.

Add the mphy reset property to the devicetree bindings for the Rockchip
RK3576 UFS host controller. The mphy reset signal is used to reset the
physical adapter. Resetting other components while leaving the mphy unreset
may occasionally prevent the UFS controller from successfully linking up
with the device.
This addresses an intermittent hardware bug where the UFS link fails to
establish under specific timing conditions with certain chips. While
difficult to reproduce initially, this issue was consistently observed in
downstream testing and requires explicit mphy reset control for full
stability.
Although this change increases the maxItems for resets and adds a new entry
(which technically alters the binding ABI), it does not break compatibility
for existing Linux systems. The driver uses
devm_reset_control_array_get_exclusive() to manage resets, allowing it to
function correctly with both older Device Trees (without the mphy entry)
and newer ones.

Ram Kumar Dwivedi <quic_rdwivedi@quicinc.com> says:
This patch series adds support for limiting the maximum high-speed
gear and rate used by the UFS controller via device tree properties.
Some platforms may have signal integrity, clock configuration, or
layout issues that prevent reliable operation at higher gears or
rates. This is especially critical in automotive and other platforms
where stability is prioritized over peak performance.
The series follows this logical progression:
1. Document the new DT properties in the common UFS binding
2. Clean up existing redundant code in the qcom driver
3. Add platform-level parsing support for the new properties
4. Integrate the platform support in the qcom driver
This approach makes the functionality available to other UFS host
drivers and provides a cleaner, more maintainable implementation.

This is useful in cases where the customer board may have signal

operation at higher gears. Such limitations are especially critical in
those platforms, where stability is prioritized over peak performance.

The binding for Qualcomm SoC UFS controllers grew and it will grow
further. Split SM8650 and SM8750 UFS controllers which:
1. Do not reference ICE as IO address space, but as phandle,
2. Have same order of clocks.
3. Have MCQ I/O address space. Document that MCQ address space as
optional to maintain backwards compatibility and because Linux
drivers can operate perfectly fine without it (thus without MCQ
feature). Linux driver already uses "mcq" as possible name for
"reg-names" property.
The split allows easier review and maintenance of the binding.

The 'phandle-array' type is a bit ambiguous. It can be either just an
array of phandles or an array of phandles plus args. "samsung, sysreg" is
the latter and needs to be constrained to a single entry with a phandle and
offset.

The Message Signaled Interrupts (MSI) support has been introduced in UFSHCI
version 4.0 (JESD223E). The MSI is the recommended interrupt approach for
MCQ. If choose to use MSI, in UFS DT, we need to provide msi-parent
property that point to the hardware entity which serves as the MSI
controller for this UFS controller.

Except scaling UFS and bus clocks, it's necessary to scale also the
voltages of regulators or power domain performance state levels. Adding
Operating Performance Points table allows to adjust power domain
performance state, depending on the UFS clock speed.
