Many bluetooth source files are missing SPDX-License-Identifier lines. Add appropriate IDs to these files, and remove other license lines from the headers. Leave the warranty disclaimer in files where the license ID is GPL-2.0 but the wording of the disclaimer is slightly different from that of the GPL v2 disclaimer. It is not different enough to cause licensing conflicts, but is kept to honor the original contributors' legal intent. 2026-06-11Bluetooth: RFCOMM: convert to getsockopt_iterBreno Leitao1-13/+17
Convert RFCOMM socket's getsockopt implementation to use the new getsockopt_iter callback with sockopt_t. Key changes: - Replace (char __user *optval, int __user *optlen) with sockopt_t *sopt - Use sopt->optlen for buffer length (input) - Use copy_to_iter() instead of put_user()/copy_to_user() - Add linux/uio.h for copy_to_iter() The sockopt_t parameter is named sopt rather than opt to avoid collision with the existing local u32 opt used by RFCOMM_LM. 2026-06-03Bluetooth: RFCOMM: hold listener socket in rfcomm_connect_ind()Zhang Cen1-4/+22
rfcomm_get_sock_by_channel() scans rfcomm_sk_list under the list lock, but returns the selected listener after dropping that lock without taking a reference. rfcomm_connect_ind() then locks the listener, queues a child socket on it, and may notify it after unlocking it. The buggy scenario involves two paths, with each column showing the order within that path: rfcomm_connect_ind(): listener close: 1. Find parent in 1. close() enters rfcomm_get_sock_by_channel() rfcomm_sock_release(). 2. Drop rfcomm_sk_list.lock 2. rfcomm_sock_shutdown() without pinning parent. closes the listener. 3. Call lock_sock(parent) and 3. rfcomm_sock_kill() bt_accept_enqueue(parent, unlinks and puts parent. sk, true). 4. Read parent flags and may 4. parent can be freed. call sk_state_change(). If close wins the race, parent can be freed before rfcomm_connect_ind() reaches lock_sock(), bt_accept_enqueue(), or the deferred-setup callback. Take a reference on the listener before leaving rfcomm_sk_list.lock. After lock_sock() succeeds, recheck that it is still in BT_LISTEN before queueing a child, cache the deferred-setup bit while the parent is locked, and drop the reference after the last parent use. KASAN reported a slab-use-after-free in lock_sock_nested() from rfcomm_connect_ind(), with the freeing stack going through rfcomm_sock_kill() and rfcomm_sock_release(). 2026-05-20Bluetooth: fix UAF in l2cap_sock_cleanup_listen() vs l2cap_conn_del()Safa Karakuş1-1/+8
bt_accept_dequeue() unlinks a not-yet-accepted child from the parent accept queue and release_sock()s it before returning, so the returned sk has no caller reference and is unlocked. l2cap_sock_cleanup_listen() walks these children on listening-socket close. A concurrent HCI disconnect drives hci_rx_work -> l2cap_conn_del() which runs l2cap_chan_del() + l2cap_sock_kill() and frees the child sk and its l2cap_chan; cleanup_listen() then uses both: BUG: KASAN: slab-use-after-free in l2cap_sock_kill l2cap_sock_kill / l2cap_sock_cleanup_listen / __x64_sys_close Freed by: l2cap_conn_del -> l2cap_sock_close_cb -> l2cap_sock_kill This is distinct from the two fixes already in this area: commit e83f5e24da741 ("Bluetooth: serialize accept_q access") serialises the accept_q list/poll and takes temporary refs inside bt_accept_dequeue(), and CVE-2025-39860 serialises the userspace close()/accept() race by calling cleanup_listen() under lock_sock() in l2cap_sock_release(). Neither covers l2cap_conn_del() running from hci_rx_work, so this UAF still reproduces on current bluetooth/master. Take the reference at the source: bt_accept_dequeue() does sock_hold() while sk is still locked, before release_sock(); callers sock_put(). cleanup_listen() pins the chan with l2cap_chan_hold_unless_zero() under a brief child sk lock (serialising vs l2cap_sock_teardown_cb()), drops it before l2cap_chan_lock(), and skips a duplicate l2cap_sock_kill() on SOCK_DEAD. conn->lock is not taken here: cleanup_listen() runs under the parent sk lock and that would invert conn->lock -> chan->lock -> sk_lock (lockdep). KASAN/SMP: an unprivileged listen/close vs HCI-disconnect race produced 12 use-after-free reports per run before this change; 0, and no lockdep report, over 1600+ raced iterations after it on bluetooth/master. 2024-12-11Bluetooth: Improve setsockopt() handling of malformed user inputMichal Luczaj1-5/+4
The bt_copy_from_sockptr() return value is being misinterpreted by most users: a non-zero result is mistakenly assumed to represent an error code, but actually indicates the number of bytes that could not be copied. Remove bt_copy_from_sockptr() and adapt callers to use copy_safe_from_sockptr(). For sco_sock_setsockopt() (case BT_CODEC) use copy_struct_from_sockptr() to scrub parts of uninitialized buffer. Opportunistically, rename `len` to `optlen` in hci_sock_setsockopt_old() and hci_sock_setsockopt(). 2024-11-14Bluetooth: Fix type of len in rfcomm_sock_getsockopt{,_old}()Andrej Shadura1-4/+6
Commit 9bf4e919ccad worked around an issue introduced after an innocuous optimisation change in LLVM main: > len is defined as an 'int' because it is assigned from > '__user int *optlen'. However, it is clamped against the result of > sizeof(), which has a type of 'size_t' ('unsigned long' for 64-bit > platforms). This is done with min_t() because min() requires compatible > types, which results in both len and the result of sizeof() being casted > to 'unsigned int', meaning len changes signs and the result of sizeof() > is truncated. From there, len is passed to copy_to_user(), which has a > third parameter type of 'unsigned long', so it is widened and changes > signs again. This excessive casting in combination with the KCSAN > instrumentation causes LLVM to fail to eliminate the __bad_copy_from() > call, failing the build. The same issue occurs in rfcomm in functions rfcomm_sock_getsockopt and rfcomm_sock_getsockopt_old. Change the type of len to size_t in both rfcomm_sock_getsockopt and rfcomm_sock_getsockopt_old and replace min_t() with min(). 2023-01-17Bluetooth: Fix possible deadlock in rfcomm_sk_state_changeYing Hsu1-1/+6
syzbot reports a possible deadlock in rfcomm_sk_state_change [1]. While rfcomm_sock_connect acquires the sk lock and waits for the rfcomm lock, rfcomm_sock_release could have the rfcomm lock and hit a deadlock for acquiring the sk lock. 2021-08-10Bluetooth: switch to lock_sock in RFCOMMDesmond Cheong Zhi Xi1-4/+4
Other than rfcomm_sk_state_change and rfcomm_connect_ind, functions in RFCOMM use lock_sock to lock the socket. Since bh_lock_sock and spin_lock_bh do not provide synchronization with lock_sock, these calls should be changed to lock_sock. This is now safe to do because packet processing is now done in a workqueue instead of a tasklet, so bh_lock_sock/spin_lock_bh are no longer necessary to synchronise between user contexts and SOFTIRQ processing. 2020-05-29Bluetooth: Acquire sk_lock.slock without disabling interruptsSebastian Andrzej Siewior1-5/+2
There was a lockdep which led to commit fad003b6c8e3d ("Bluetooth: Fix inconsistent lock state with RFCOMM") Lockdep noticed that `sk->sk_lock.slock' was acquired without disabling the softirq while the lock was also used in softirq context. Unfortunately the solution back then was to disable interrupts before acquiring the lock which however made lockdep happy. It would have been enough to simply disable the softirq. Disabling interrupts before acquiring a spinlock_t is not allowed on PREEMPT_RT because these locks are converted to 'sleeping' spinlocks. Use spin_lock_bh() in order to acquire the `sk_lock.slock'. 2019-04-19net: rework SIOCGSTAMP ioctl handlingArnd Bergmann1-0/+1
The SIOCGSTAMP/SIOCGSTAMPNS ioctl commands are implemented by many socket protocol handlers, and all of those end up calling the same sock_get_timestamp()/sock_get_timestampns() helper functions, which results in a lot of duplicate code. With the introduction of 64-bit time_t on 32-bit architectures, this gets worse, as we then need four different ioctl commands in each socket protocol implementation. To simplify that, let's add a new .gettstamp() operation in struct proto_ops, and move ioctl implementation into the common sock_ioctl()/compat_sock_ioctl_trans() functions that these all go through. We can reuse the sock_get_timestamp() implementation, but generalize it so it can deal with both native and compat mode, as well as timeval and timespec structures. With commit e16337622016 ("Bluetooth: Handle bt_accept_enqueue() socket atomically") lock_sock[_nested]() is used to acquire the socket lock before manipulating the socket. lock_sock[_nested]() may block, which is problematic since bt_accept_enqueue() can be called in bottom half context (e.g. from rfcomm_connect_ind()): [<ffffff80080d81ec>] __might_sleep+0x4c/0x80 [<ffffff800876c7b0>] lock_sock_nested+0x24/0x58 [<ffffff8000d7c27c>] bt_accept_enqueue+0x48/0xd4 [bluetooth] [<ffffff8000e67d8c>] rfcomm_connect_ind+0x190/0x218 [rfcomm] Add a parameter to bt_accept_enqueue() to indicate whether the function is called from BH context, and acquire the socket lock with bh_lock_sock_nested() if that's the case. Also adapt all callers of bt_accept_enqueue() to pass the new parameter: - l2cap_sock_new_connection_cb() - uses lock_sock() to lock the parent socket => process context - rfcomm_connect_ind() - acquires the parent socket lock with bh_lock_sock() => BH context - __sco_chan_add() - called from sco_chan_add(), which is called from sco_connect(). parent is NULL, hence bt_accept_enqueue() isn't called in this code path and we can ignore it - also called from sco_conn_ready(). uses bh_lock_sock() to acquire the parent lock => BH context Fixes: e16337622016 ("Bluetooth: Handle bt_accept_enqueue() socket atomically") Signed-off-by: Matthias Kaehlcke <mka@chromium.org> Reviewed-by: Douglas Anderson <dianders@chromium.org> Signed-off-by: Marcel Holtmann <marcel@holtmann.org> Cc: stable@vger.kernel.org

2018-06-28Revert changes to convert to ->poll_mask() and aio IOCB_CMD_POLLLinus Torvalds1-1/+1
The poll() changes were not well thought out, and completely unexplained. They also caused a huge performance regression, because "->poll()" was no longer a trivial file operation that just called down to the underlying file operations, but instead did at least two indirect calls. Indirect calls are sadly slow now with the Spectre mitigation, but the performance problem could at least be largely mitigated by changing the "->get_poll_head()" operation to just have a per-file-descriptor pointer to the poll head instead. That gets rid of one of the new indirections. But that doesn't fix the new complexity that is completely unwarranted for the regular case. The (undocumented) reason for the poll() changes was some alleged AIO poll race fixing, but we don't make the common case slower and more complex for some uncommon special case, so this all really needs way more explanations and most likely a fundamental redesign. 2018-02-12net: make getname() functions return length rather than use int* parameterDenys Vlasenko1-3/+2
Changes since v1: Added changes in these files: drivers/infiniband/hw/usnic/usnic_transport.c drivers/staging/lustre/lnet/lnet/lib-socket.c drivers/target/iscsi/iscsi_target_login.c drivers/vhost/net.c fs/dlm/lowcomms.c fs/ocfs2/cluster/tcp.c security/tomoyo/network.c Before: All these functions either return a negative error indicator, or store length of sockaddr into "int *socklen" parameter and return zero on success. "int *socklen" parameter is awkward. For example, if caller does not care, it still needs to provide on-stack storage for the value it does not need. None of the many FOO_getname() functions of various protocols ever used old value of *socklen. They always just overwrite it. This change drops this parameter, and makes all these functions, on success, return length of sockaddr. It's always >= 0 and can be differentiated from an error. Tests in callers are changed from "if (err)" to "if (err < 0)", where needed. rpc_sockname() lost "int buflen" parameter, since its only use was to be passed to kernel_getsockname() as &buflen and subsequently not used in any way. 2017-07-01net: convert sock.sk_refcnt from atomic_t to refcount_tReshetova, Elena1-1/+1
refcount_t type and corresponding API should be used instead of atomic_t when the variable is used as a reference counter. This allows to avoid accidental refcounter overflows that might lead to use-after-free situations. This patch uses refcount_inc_not_zero() instead of atomic_inc_not_zero_hint() due to absense of a _hint() version of refcount API. If the hint() version must be used, we might need to revisit API. connect handlers Verify that the caller-provided sockaddr structure is large enough to contain the sa_family field, before accessing it in bind() and connect() handlers of the Bluetooth sockets. Since neither syscall enforces a minimum size of the corresponding memory region, very short sockaddrs (zero or one byte long) result in operating on uninitialized memory while referencing sa_family. 2017-03-09net: Work around lockdep limitation in sockets that use socketsDavid Howells1-1/+2
Lockdep issues a circular dependency warning when AFS issues an operation through AF_RXRPC from a context in which the VFS/VM holds the mmap_sem. The theory lockdep comes up with is as follows: (1) If the pagefault handler decides it needs to read pages from AFS, it calls AFS with mmap_sem held and AFS begins an AF_RXRPC call, but creating a call requires the socket lock: mmap_sem must be taken before sk_lock-AF_RXRPC (2) afs_open_socket() opens an AF_RXRPC socket and binds it. rxrpc_bind() binds the underlying UDP socket whilst holding its socket lock. inet_bind() takes its own socket lock: sk_lock-AF_RXRPC must be taken before sk_lock-AF_INET (3) Reading from a TCP socket into a userspace buffer might cause a fault and thus cause the kernel to take the mmap_sem, but the TCP socket is locked whilst doing this: sk_lock-AF_INET must be taken before mmap_sem However, lockdep's theory is wrong in this instance because it deals only with lock classes and not individual locks. The AF_INET lock in (2) isn't really equivalent to the AF_INET lock in (3) as the former deals with a socket entirely internal to the kernel that never sees userspace. This is a limitation in the design of lockdep. Fix the general case by: (1) Double up all the locking keys used in sockets so that one set are used if the socket is created by userspace and the other set is used if the socket is created by the kernel. (2) Store the kern parameter passed to sk_alloc() in a variable in the sock struct (sk_kern_sock). This informs sock_lock_init(), sock_init_data() and sk_clone_lock() as to the lock keys to be used. Note that the child created by sk_clone_lock() inherits the parent's kern setting. (3) Add a 'kern' parameter to ->accept() that is analogous to the one passed in to ->create() that distinguishes whether kernel_accept() or sys_accept4() was the caller and can be passed to sk_alloc(). Note that a lot of accept functions merely dequeue an already allocated socket. I haven't touched these as the new socket already exists before we get the parameter. Note also that there are a couple of places where I've made the accepted socket unconditionally kernel-based: irda_accept() rds_rcp_accept_one() tcp_accept_from_sock() because they follow a sock_create_kern() and accept off of that. Whilst creating this, I noticed that lustre and ocfs don't create sockets through sock_create_kern() and thus they aren't marked as for-kernel, though they appear to be internal. I wonder if these should do that so that they use the new set of lock keys. Signed-off-by: David Howells <dhowells@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

2015-01-23Bluetooth: Fix nested sleepsPeter Hurley1-5/+4
l2cap/rfcomm/sco_sock_accept() are wait loops which may acquire sleeping locks. Since both wait loops and sleeping locks use task_struct.state to sleep and wake, the nested sleeping locks destroy the wait loop state. Use the newly-minted wait_woken() and DEFINE_WAIT_FUNC() for the wait loop. DEFINE_WAIT_FUNC() allows an alternate wake function to be specified; in this case, the predefined scheduler function, woken_wake_function(). This wait construct ensures wakeups will not be missed without requiring the wait loop to set the task state before condition evaluation. How this works: CPU 0 | CPU 1 | | is <condition> set? | no set <condition> | | wake_up_interruptible | woken_wake_function | set WQ_FLAG_WOKEN | try_to_wake_up | | wait_woken | set TASK_INTERRUPTIBLE | WQ_FLAG_WOKEN? yes | set TASK_RUNNING | | - loop - | | is <condition> set? | yes - exit wait loop Fixes "do not call blocking ops when !TASK_RUNNING" warnings in l2cap_sock_accept(), rfcomm_sock_accept() and sco_sock_accept(). 2014-04-11net: Fix use after free by removing length arg from sk_data_ready callbacks.David S. Miller1-2/+2
Several spots in the kernel perform a sequence like: skb_queue_tail(&sk->s_receive_queue, skb); sk->sk_data_ready(sk, skb->len); But at the moment we place the SKB onto the socket receive queue it can be consumed and freed up. So this skb->len access is potentially to freed up memory. Furthermore, the skb->len can be modified by the consumer so it is possible that the value isn't accurate. And finally, no actual implementation of this callback actually uses the length argument. And since nobody actually cared about it's value, lots of call sites pass arbitrary values in such as '0' and even '1'. So just remove the length argument from the callback, that way there is no confusion whatsoever and all of these use-after-free cases get fixed as a side effect. 2013-11-20net: rework recvmsg handler msg_name and msg_namelen logicHannes Frederic Sowa1-1/+0
This patch now always passes msg->msg_namelen as 0. recvmsg handlers must set msg_namelen to the proper size <= sizeof(struct sockaddr_storage) to return msg_name to the user. This prevents numerous uninitialized memory leaks we had in the recvmsg handlers and makes it harder for new code to accidentally leak uninitialized memory. Optimize for the case recvfrom is called with NULL as address. We don't need to copy the address at all, so set it to NULL before invoking the recvmsg handler. We can do so, because all the recvmsg handlers must cope with the case a plain read() is called on them. read() also sets msg_name to NULL. Also document these changes in include/linux/net.h as suggested by David Miller. Changes since RFC: Set msg->msg_name = NULL if user specified a NULL in msg_name but had a non-null msg_namelen in verify_iovec/verify_compat_iovec. This doesn't affect sendto as it would bail out earlier while trying to copy-in the address. It also more naturally reflects the logic by the callers of verify_iovec. With this change in place I could remove " if (!uaddr || msg_sys->msg_namelen == 0) msg->msg_name = NULL ". This change does not alter the user visible error logic as we ignore msg_namelen as long as msg_name is NULL. Also remove two unnecessary curly brackets in ___sys_recvmsg and change comments to netdev style.
