Replace bare grep with test_grep in test assertions across the
suite, including sourced test helpers (lib-*.sh, *-tests.sh).
test_grep prints the contents of the file being searched on
failure, making debugging easier than a bare grep which fails
silently.
Only assertion-style greps are converted: grep used as a filter
in pipelines, command substitutions, conditionals, or with
redirected I/O is left as-is with a "# lint-ok" annotation.
Existing '! test_grep' calls are rewritten to 'test_grep !' so
that the diagnostic output is preserved on failure.
test_grep requires the file it reads to exist, so '! grep'
assertions that inspect a file whose presence is conditional need
care. In t5537 the '.git/shallow' file is still present after the
repack (the client remains shallow), so the assertion is
converted like any other. In t1400 the '.git/packed-refs' file
exists only with the files backend, so its check is guarded with a
REFFILES prerequisite; the backend-agnostic 'git show-ref' check
that follows still runs under every backend. In t7450 'git~2' is
the NTFS 8.3 short name of a '..git' file and only exists
when 8.3 short-name generation is enabled, so its check is guarded
with a 'test -f' on the path and uses test_grep inside the guard,
the same shape as t1400 (a plain test_grep would BUG when the
short name is absent).
The conversion was generated using a grep-assertion linter
(greplint.pl, added in the following commit) to identify bare
grep calls at command position. To reproduce, from the t/

Now that the default value for TEST_PASSES_SANITIZE_LEAK is `true` there
is no longer a need to have that variable declared in all of our tests.
Drop it.

In the topic merged via 5a4f8381b6 (Merge branch
'ab/mark-leak-free-tests', 2021-10-25), a handful of tests in the suite
were marked as leak-free.
Since then, a handful of tests have become leak-free due to changes like
- 861c56f6f9 (branch: fix a leak in setup_tracking, 2023-06-11), and
- 866b43e644 (do_read_index(): always mark index as initialized unless
erroring out, 2023-06-29)
, but weren't updated at the time to mark themselves as such. This leads
to test "failures" when running:
$ make SANITIZE=leak

GIT_TEST_PASSING_SANITIZE_LEAK=check \
GIT_TEST_SANITIZE_LEAK_LOG=true \
GIT_TEST_OPTS=-vi test
This patch closes those gaps by exporting TEST_PASSES_SANITIZE_LEAK=true
before sourcing t/test-lib.sh on most remaining leak-free tests.
There are a couple of other tests which are similarly leak-free, but not
included in the list of tests touched by this patch. The remaining tests
will be addressed in the subsequent two patches.

Fix a few miscellaneous cases where:
- We lost the "git" exit code via "git ... | grep"
- Likewise by having a $(git) argument to git itself
- Used "test -z" to check that a command emitted no output, we can use
"test_must_be_empty" and &&-chaining instead.

If HEAD doesn't point at anything during the initial check, then we
should make sure that it *still* doesn't point at anything when we are
ready to update the reference. Otherwise, another process might commit
while we are working (e.g., while we are waiting for the user to edit
the commit message) and we will silently overwrite it.
This fixes a failing test in t7516.

Committing involves the following steps:
1. Determine the current value of HEAD (if any).
2. Create the new commit object.
3. Update HEAD.
Please note that step 2 can take arbitrarily long, because it might
involve the user editing a commit message.
If a second process sneaks in a commit during step 2, then the first
commit process should fail. This is usually done correctly, because
step 3 verifies that HEAD still points at the same commit that it
pointed to during step 1.
However, if there is a race when creating an *orphan* commit, then the
test in step 3 is skipped.
Add tests for proper handling of such races. One of the new tests
fails. It will be fixed in a moment.
