12 daysfutex: Provide rt_mutex_.*_schedule() equivalents for futex schedulingSebastian Andrzej Siewior1-0/+16
There is rt_mutex_{pre|post}_schedule() around rt_mutex_wait_proxy_lock() to ensure that sched_submit_work()/ sched_update_worker() is invoked before we schedule out and block on rt_mutex while waiting for it become available. The reason is that blocking on rt_mutex assigns a pi_waiter for the PI chain and sched_submit_work() will also assign a pi_waiter if it blocks on lock but a this point we already have a waiter assigned. We can't skip sched_submit_work() entirely because I/O relies on the fact that I/O queue is flushed while it blocks on a sleeping lock. Therefore sched_submit_work() is moved before we block on the lock. Sleeping lock in this context means mutex or rw_semaphore not spinlock_t on PREEMPT_RT. Because the mutex abstraction on PREEMPT_RT uses the same abstraction as the futex proxy lock, the futex code ended up using rt_mutex_{pre|post}_schedule(), too. Using it is/ was just to keep the task_struct::sched_rt_mutex assertion happy. Futex proxy lock is used only in the syscall context of a task. At this point it never got any I/O that needs to be flushed and it can't be a workqueue that needs to notify that it will be scheduled out. Therefore sched_submit_work() does nothing here. By mistake futex_wait_requeue_pi() -> rt_mutex_wait_proxy_lock() did not get the rt_mutex_{pre|post}_schedule() annotation. This was not noticed because in this callchain the lock is (usually) not contended and so rt_mutex_slowlock_block() does not schedule, triggering the assert. Adding rt_mutex_pre_schedule() here looks wrong (as noted by PeterZ) because at this point there is a pi_waiter recorded and invoking sched_submit_work() with a possible lock contention would be wrong. Add rt_mutex_futex_{pre|post}_schedule() which toggles the sched_rt_mutex assert and does not involve sched_submit_work(). Add asserts here to ensure that sched_submit_work() would do nothing. Use it only in futex proxy lock case which is rt_mutex_wait_proxy_lock(). Remove it from futex_lock_pi(). Commit 4b603f1551a73 ("sched: Update rq->avg_idle when a task is moved to an idle CPU") moved rq->avg_idle accounting out of the wakeup path and into put_prev_task_idle(), so that the idle interval is consumed whenever the idle task is switched out. The wakeup-side accounting that it replaced only updated rq->avg_idle when rq->idle_stamp was non-zero. The new helper lost that validity check and unconditionally computes: rq_clock(rq) - rq->idle_stamp If rq->idle_stamp is zero, this uses rq_clock(rq) as the sample. That is not a valid idle duration and can immediately drive rq->avg_idle to its clamp. This can happen when sched_balance_newidle() returns before setting rq->idle_stamp, for example when this_rq->ttwu_pending is set. In that case the rq can switch to the idle task with idle_stamp still zero and leave idle again when the pending wakeup is processed. Other paths can also switch to the idle task without setting rq->idle_stamp via newidle_balance(), for example find_proxy_task() or force-idling. Restore the idle_stamp validity check in update_rq_avg_idle() and skip the rq->avg_idle update when there is no measured idle interval. Development volume was high and a number of changes plugging holes in the new support landed late in the cycle. Also included are core scheduling fixes that were completed too late for the v7.2 release and are routed through this pull request. Sub-scheduler CPU delegation: - Parent schedulers now grant and revoke per-CPU capabilities (enqueueing, preemption, CPU frequency control) on their children, enforced on every path a scheduler can reach a CPU through. Previously only dispatching could be delegated; this lets sub-schedulers fully schedule their CPUs. - Rescue execution: a task whose scheduler doesn't have access to the CPUs the task needs to run on starved until the watchdog ejected the whole scheduler. The kernel now runs such tasks directly on a small bandwidth budget, turning a scheduler-killing failure into bounded degradation. - Cgroup integration: tasks migrating across a sub-scheduler boundary weren't re-homed to the new owner, causing wrong-scheduler scheduling and a use-after-free. Sub-schedulers now take over their cgroup subtree and receive its cgroup callbacks. - Arena objects now cross the kernel/BPF boundary as typed pointer arguments, translated transparently by the BPF tree's new arena argument support, replacing untyped arguments with manual translation. - scx_qmap now demonstrates full hierarchical sub-scheduling. Other fixes and updates: - Robustness improvements: the abort path is now NMI-safe, fixing deadlocks when errors are raised from NMI context and making hardlockup recovery direct. Reenqueue loops that could monopolize a CPU ahead of the watchdog now eject the offending scheduler, and stalls are blamed on the scheduler actually responsible. - Hardening: BPF-writable arena memory is validated before kernel use, and task slice and vtime writes got explicit synchronization rules, closing corruption vectors open to buggy or malicious schedulers. - Core scheduling: sched_ext dispatching can drop the rq lock inside the core-wide pick, which let interleaving selections corrupt each other's state and hard-hang the machine. The selection now restarts when the lock was released. The task ordering callback was also invoked with its arguments swapped, and the default ordering is updated to work across sub-scheduler boundaries. 2026-08-11sched/core: Make core-sched flips wait for in-flight selectionsTejun Heo1-0/+22
Core scheduling's pick_next_task() operates on all sibling rqs under one acquisition of the shared core-wide lock. A ->pick_task() that releases the rq lock leaves every sibling __lock momentarily free, letting __sched_core_flip(false) complete mid-selection and rebind rq_lockp() under it. The selection resumes on the split locks, touching sibling state it no longer protects, and __schedule() finally releases a lock that was never taken while leaking the one that was. Count in-flight core-wide selections in the leader's rq->core_pick_in_flight and make __sched_core_flip() wait for the count to drain. The count only changes under the shared lock, which the flip holds while sampling, so no other ordering is needed. The wait can repeat while selections overlap, but the flip backs off between samples and flips are rare cookie-lifetime events. sched_core_cpu_deactivate() moves the count to the new leader - a stale copy left behind would bias it forever if that CPU later returns as its own leader. 2026-08-11sched/core: Handle pick_task() releasing the rq lockTejun Heo1-8/+19
Core scheduling's pick_next_task() breaks when a ->pick_task() implementation can release the rq lock. The selection state derived on entry is only valid while the lock is held continuously. Once a pick can drop the lock, an interleaving selection can invalidate all of it: the single-CPU fast path can commit an uncookied pick although the core went cookied during the release, and forceidle committed by the interleaving selection skews the restarted pass's accounting. Fix it by restarting the whole selection when a pick returns RETRY_TASK after releasing the lock: a single restart point above the state derivation replaces the per-loop restart labels, so a retry picks up state committed by interleaving selections and accounts and resets forceidle like a fresh selection would. need_sync and fi_before latch across retries. Clock validity can't be re-derived - there is no program-ordered way to tell whether the own and core rq clocks are still updated after the lock was released, as other lockers' pin cycles may or may not have invalidated them. When restarting, clear core_clock_updated so that the sibling loop re-updates the core rq, and update the own rq clock if invalidated. 2026-08-10preempt: Introduce HAS_SEPARATE_PREEMPT_RESCHED_BITSBoqun Feng1-2/+10
With the changes that enable preempt count to track IRQ disabling nesting, we don't have enough bits in 32-bit preempt count implementation, as a result we move NMI nesting bits out of the 32-bit preempt count. However on the architectures that can support 64-bit preempt count implementation, we can keep the NMI nesting bits in the 32-bit preempt count and avoid maintaining NMI nesting bits outside of the same cache line. Therefore HAS_SEPARATE_PREEMPT_RESCHED_BITS is introduced to allow architectures to select this. Note that under this Kconfig, preempt count is maintained in a 64-bit word however preempt_count() still remains as an int because all the effective bits still fit in (previously we mask out NEED_RESCHED bit in preempt_count()). This should make no functional changes for existing preempt_count() users. Enable this for x86_64 along with the introduction of the Kconfig. 2026-08-10sched: Avoid signed comparison of preempt_count() in __cant_migrate()Boqun Feng1-1/+1
Currently preempt_count() is always a non-negative int on all archs (PREEMPT_NEED_RESCHED archs will mask out the MSB when returning preempt_count()), hence the checking in __cant_migrate() is in fact just checking whether preempt_count() is 0 or not. In a future change, we are going to use all the 32 bits of preempt_count(), which would make negative int values possible from preempt_count(). Therefore convert the "> 0" comparison into a zero check to prepare for the future change. No functional changes are intended. CONFIG_SYSCTL used to make sense as a separate hidden bool before commit 61a47c1ad3a4 ("sysctl: Remove the sysctl system call"); it was selected by both CONFIG_SYSCTL_SYSCALL and CONFIG_PROC_SYSCTL. Today CONFIG_PROC_SYSCTL is the only selector, so the two are always equal. Kill the hidden bool, rename the PROC_SYSCTL prompt to SYSCTL, and s/CONFIG_PROC_SYSCTL/CONFIG_SYSCTL/ tree-wide. 2026-08-04block: split out a new blk_plug.h headerChristoph Hellwig1-1/+0
blkdev.h gets included in various places outside the block layer just for struct blk_plug and related plugging functions. Split blk_plug into a separate helper to reduce the amount of code that needs to get rebuilt when blkdev.h changes and to slightly reduce compile times. In io_uring this requires pulling in a few other headers explicitly that previously were implicitly included through blkdev.h. 2026-06-30sched/eevdf: Move to a single runqueuePeter Zijlstra (Intel)1-4/+1
Change fair/cgroup to a single runqueue. Infamously fair/cgroup isn't working for a number of people; typically the complaint is latencies and/or overhead. The latency issue is due to the intermediate entries that represent a combination of tasks and thereby obfuscate the runnability of tasks. The approach here is to leave the cgroup hierarchy as is; including the intermediate enqueue/dequeue but move the actual EEVDF runqueue outside. This means things like the shares_weight approximation are fully preserved. That is, given a hierarchy like: R | se--G1 / \ G2--se se--G3 / \ | T1--se se--T2 se--T3 This is fully maintained for load tracking, however the EEVDF parts of cfs_rq/se go unused for the intermediates and are instead connected like: _R_ / | \ T1 T2 T3 Since the effective weight of the entities is determined by the hierarchy, this gets recomputed on enqueue,set_next_task and tick. Notably, the effective weight (se->h_load) is computed from the hierarchical fraction: se->load / cfs_rq->load. Since EEVDF is now exclusively operating on rq->cfs, it needs to consider cfs_rq->h_nr_queued rather than cfs_rq->nr_queued. Similarly, only tasks can get delayed, simplifying some of the cgroup cleanup. One place where additional information was required was set_next_task() / put_prev_task(), where we need to track 'current' both in the hierarchical sense (cfs_rq->h_curr) and in the flat sense (cfs_rq->curr). As a result of only having a single level to pick from, much of the complications in pick_next_task() and preemption go away. Since many of the hierarchical operations are still there, this won't immediately fix the performance issues, but hopefully it will fix some of the latency issues. 2026-06-19sched/mmcid: Fix OOB clear_bit when CID is MM_CID_UNSET in fixup pathRik van Riel1-2/+13
In mm_cid_fixup_cpus_to_tasks(), when rq->curr has the target mm and mm_cid.active is set, the CID is checked with cid_in_transit() before setting the transition bit. In per-CPU mode a newly forked or exec'd task can be running with mm_cid.cid == MM_CID_UNSET because CIDs are assigned lazily on schedule-in. With cid_in_transit() the guard passes for MM_CID_UNSET (no transit bit), converts it to MM_CID_UNSET | MM_CID_TRANSIT and stores it back; later mm_cid_schedout() feeds this to clear_bit() with MM_CID_UNSET as the bit number, triggering an out-of-bounds write. Symptoms: this is genuine memory corruption, but a bounded out-of-bounds write, not an arbitrary one. MM_CID_UNSET is the fixed sentinel BIT(31), so once the bad value reaches mm_cid_schedout() the cid_from_transit_cid() strip leaves MM_CID_UNSET, which fails the "cid < max_cids" convergence test and falls into mm_drop_cid() -> clear_bit(MM_CID_UNSET, mm_cidmask(mm)). The cid bitmap is embedded in the mm_struct slab object (after cpu_bitmap and mm_cpus_allowed) and is only num_possible_cpus() bits wide, so clearing bit 31 is a deterministic OOB bit-clear at a fixed offset of 2^31 / 8 == 256 MiB past the bitmap base. The address is not attacker-influenced (fixed sentinel -> fixed offset) and the op only clears a single bit; what sits 256 MiB further along the direct map is whatever kernel object happens to live there, so this corrupts one bit of unpredictable kernel memory -- it is not an arbitrary-address or arbitrary-value write. It triggers only in per-CPU CID mode, when a CPU is running an active task of the target mm whose cid is still MM_CID_UNSET -- the fork()/execve() window before that task's next schedule-in assigns it a real CID -- and a per-CPU -> per-task fixup walks over it (the mode fallback driven by a thread exit, sched_mm_cid_exit(), or by the deferred max_cids recompute in mm_cid_work_fn()). In practice syzkaller surfaced it as a KASAN use-after-free reported in __schedule -> mm_cid_switch_to, where the offending clear_bit() is inlined via mm_cid_schedout() -> mm_drop_cid(). Guard the transition-bit assignment against MM_CID_UNSET, in addition to the existing cid_in_transit() check, so the bit is only set on a genuine task-owned CID. A CPU-owned (MM_CID_ONCPU) CID of a running active task is handled by the cid_on_cpu(pcp->cid) branch above and never reaches this path, so excluding MM_CID_UNSET (and the already-transitioning case) is sufficient. 2026-06-16block: invalidate cached plug timestamp after task switchUsama Arif1-4/+8
blk_time_get_ns() caches ktime_get_ns() in current->plug->cur_ktime and marks the task with PF_BLOCK_TS. That cache is only valid while the task keeps running; if the task is switched out, wall-clock time advances and the cached value must not be reused when the task runs again. The existing invalidation covers explicit plug flushes through __blk_flush_plug(), and the schedule() / rtmutex paths through sched_update_worker(). It does not cover in-kernel preemption paths such as preempt_schedule(), preempt_schedule_notrace(), and preempt_schedule_irq(), which enter __schedule(SM_PREEMPT) directly and return without calling sched_update_worker(). As a result, a task preempted while holding a plug with PF_BLOCK_TS set can reuse a stale plug->cur_ktime after it is scheduled back in. blk-iocost then consumes that stale timestamp through ioc_now(), producing stale vnow values for throttle decisions, and through ioc_rqos_done(), inflating on-queue time and feeding false missed-QoS samples into vrate adjustment. Move the schedule-side invalidation to finish_task_switch(), which runs for the scheduled-in task after every actual context switch regardless of which schedule entry point was used. Keep __blk_flush_plug() as the explicit flush/finish-plug invalidation path, and remove only the PF_BLOCK_TS handling from sched_update_worker(). Subsequent commits will allow update_curr() to throttle the hierarchy when the runtime accounting exceeds allocated quota. Call update_curr() before the unthrottle event, and in tg_unthrottle_up() to catch up on any remaining runtime and stabilize the "runtime_remaining" and "throttle_count" for that cfs_rq. Doing an update_curr() early ensures the cfs_rq is not throttled right back up again when the unthrottle is in progress. Since all callers of unthrottle_cfs_rq(), except two, already update the rq_clock and call rq_clock_start_loop_update(), move the update_rq_clock() from unthrottle_cfs_rq() to the callers that don't update the rq_clock. To remove the cfs_rq pointer array in task_group, allocate the combined cfs_rq and sched_entity using the per-cpu allocator. This patch implements the following: - Changes task_group->cfs_rq from 'struct cfs_rq **' to 'struct cfs_rq __percpu *'. - Updates memory allocation in alloc_fair_sched_group() and free_fair_sched_group() to use alloc_percpu() and free_percpu() respectively. - Uses the inline accessor tg_cfs_rq(tg, cpu) with per_cpu_ptr() to retrieve the pointer to cfs_rq for the given task group and CPU. - Replaces direct accesses tg->cfs_rq[cpu] with calls to the new tg_cfs_rq(tg, cpu) helper. - Handles the root_task_group: since struct rq is already a per-cpu variable (runqueues), its embedded cfs_rq (rq->cfs) is also per-cpu. Therefore, we assign root_task_group.cfs_rq = &runqueues.cfs. - Cleanup the code in initializing the root task group. This change places each CPU's cfs_rq and sched_entity in its local per-cpu memory area to remove the per-task_group pointer arrays. Now that struct sched_entity is co-located with struct cfs_rq for non-root task groups, the task_group->se pointer array is redundant. The associated sched_entity can be loaded directly from the cfs_rq. This patch performs the access conversion with the helpers: - is_root_task_group(tg): checks if a task group is the root task group. It compares the task group's address with the global root_task_group variable. - tg_se(tg, cpu): retrieves the cfs_rq and returns the address of the co-located se. This function checks if tg is the root task group to ensure behaving the same of previous tg->se[cpu]. Replaces all accesses that use the tg->se[cpu] pointer array with calls to the new tg_se(tg, cpu) accessor. - cfs_rq_se(cfs_rq): simplifies access paths like cfs_rq->tg->se[...] to use the co-located sched_entity. This function also checks if tg is the root task group to ensure same behavior. Since tg_se is not in very hot code paths, and the branch is a register comparison with an immediate value (`&root_task_group`), the performance impact is expected to be negligible. 2026-06-02sched: restore timer_slack_ns when resetting RT policy on forkGuanyou.Chen1-0/+1
Commit ed4fb6d7ef68 ("hrtimer: Use and report correct timerslack values for realtime tasks") sets timer_slack_ns to 0 for RT tasks in __setscheduler_params(). However, when an RT task with SCHED_RESET_ON_FORK creates child threads, the children inherit timer_slack_ns=0 from the parent. sched_fork() resets the child's policy to SCHED_NORMAL but does not restore timer_slack_ns, leaving the child permanently running with zero slack. Fix this by restoring timer_slack_ns from default_timer_slack_ns in sched_fork() when resetting from RT/DL to NORMAL policy, matching the existing behavior in __setscheduler_params(). Note: this fix alone requires a correct default_timer_slack_ns to be effective. See the following patch for that fix. However, that seems silly and easily cured. Make sure to always call proxy_deactivate() with a cleared p->blocked_on such that we might remove this clause from the common wake-up path. Add a new is_blocked flag to the task struct. This flag is set by try_to_block_task() and cleared by ttwu_do_wakeup() and tracks if the task is blocked. Traditionally this would mirror !p->on_rq, however due things like DELAY_DEQUEUE and PROXY_EXEC, this can diverge, so its useful to manage separately. Additionally with this, we might be able to get rid of the p->se.sched_delayed (ab)use in the core code (eventually). 2026-06-02sched: Have try_to_wake_up() handle return-migration for PROXY_WAKING caseJohn Stultz1-99/+96
This patch adds logic so try_to_wake_up() will notice if we are waking a task where blocked_on == PROXY_WAKING, and if necessary dequeue the task so the wakeup will naturally return-migrate the donor task back to a cpu it can run on. This helps performance as we do the dequeue and wakeup under the locks normally taken in the try_to_wake_up() and avoids having to do proxy_force_return() from __schedule(), which has to re-take similar locks and then force a pick again loop. This was split out from the larger proxy patch, and significantly reworked. 2026-06-02sched: Rework prev_balance() to avoid stale prev referencesJohn Stultz1-17/+16
Historically, the prev value from __schedule() was the rq->curr. This prev value is passed down through numerous functions, and used in the class scheduler implementations. The fact that prev was on_cpu until the end of __schedule(), meant it was stable across the rq lock drops that the class->balance() implementations often do. However, with proxy-exec, the prev passed to functions called by __schedule() is rq->donor, which may not be the same as rq->curr and may not be on_cpu, this makes the prev value potentially unstable across rq lock drops. A recently found issue with proxy-exec, is when we begin doing return migration from try_to_wake_up(), its possible we may be waking up the rq->donor. When we do this, we proxy_resched_idle() to put_prev_set_next() setting the rq->donor to rq->idle, allowing the rq->donor to be return migrated and allowed to run. This however runs into trouble, as on another cpu we might be in the middle of calling __schedule(). Conceptually the rq lock is held for the majority of the time, but in calling prev_balance() its possible the class->balance() handler call may briefly drop the rq lock. This opens a window for try_to_wake_up() to wake and return migrate the rq->donor before the class logic reacquires the rq lock. Unfortunately prev_balance() pass in a prev argument, to which we pass rq->donor. However this prev value can now become stale and incorrect across a rq lock drop. So, to correct this, rework the prev_balance() call so that it does not take a "prev" argument. The reason for pick_next_task_fair() is the put/set optimization that avoids touching the common ancestors. However, it is possible to implement this in the put_prev_task() and set_next_task() calls as used in put_prev_set_next_task(). Notably, put_prev_set_next_task() is the only site that: - calls put_prev_task() with a .next argument; - calls set_next_task() with .first = true. This means that put_prev_task() can determine the common hierarchy and stop there, and then set_next_task() can terminate where put_prev_task stopped. 2026-05-26sched/fair: Fix RCU usage in NOHZ exit path on CPU offlineAndrea Righi1-1/+2
Commit c9d93a73ce87 ("sched/fair: Drop redundant RCU read lock in NOHZ kick path") removed the rcu_read_lock()/unlock() pair from set_cpu_sd_state_busy() and set_cpu_sd_state_idle() on the assumption that all callers run in a safe context for rcu_dereference_all(): IRQs disabled or cpus_write_lock() held. That assumption is wrong for the CPU hotplug teardown path. When CPUs are taken offline, set_cpu_sd_state_busy() is invoked via: cpuhp/N kthread cpuhp_thread_fun() cpuhp_invoke_callback() sched_cpu_deactivate() nohz_balance_exit_idle() set_cpu_sd_state_busy() rcu_dereference_all(per_cpu(sd_llc, cpu)) The cpuhp kthread holds cpu_hotplug_lock (percpu-rwsem) but runs with preemption and IRQs enabled. Now, that cpu_smt_mask is defined as cpumask_of(cpu) for CONFIG_SCHED_SMT=n, it is possible to get rid of the ifdeffery. Effectively, - This makes sched_smt_present is defined always - cpumask_weight(cpumask_of(cpu)) == 1. So sched_smt_present_inc/dec will never enable the sched_smt_present. Which is expected. - Paths that were compile-time eliminated become runtime guarded using static keys. - Defines set_idle_cores, test_idle_cores, etc which could likely benefit the CONFIG_SCHED_SMT=n systems to use the same optimizations within the LLC at wakeups. - This will expose sched_smt_present symbol for CONFIG_SCHED_SMT=n. Likely not a concern. - There is a bloat of code CONFIG_SCHED_SMT=n. (NR_CPUS=2048) add/remove: 24/18 grow/shrink: 26/28 up/down: 6396/-3188 (3208) Total: Before=30629880, After=30633088, chg +0.01% - No code bloat for CONFIG_SCHED_SMT=y, which is expected. - Add comments around stop_core_cpuslocked on why ifdefs are not removed. - This leaves the remaining uses of CONFIG_SCHED_SMT mainly for topology building bits which has a policy based decision. The wrapper functions __trace_set_current_state() and __trace_set_need_resched() allow the tracepoints to be called from code outside sched/core.c, those calls are already guarded by a tracepoint_enabled(<tp>) so there is no need to repeat this check once again inside the call using trace_<tp>(). Use the new trace_call__<tp>() API to directly call the tracepoint without check. Those helper functions must be called after the appropriate check. 2026-04-28sched/fair: Clear rel_deadline when initializing forked entitiesZicheng Qu1-0/+1
A yield-triggered crash can happen when a newly forked sched_entity enters the fair class with se->rel_deadline unexpectedly set. The failing sequence is: 1. A task is forked while se->rel_deadline is still set. 2. __sched_fork() initializes vruntime, vlag and other sched_entity state, but does not clear rel_deadline. 3. On the first enqueue, enqueue_entity() calls place_entity(). 4. Because se->rel_deadline is set, place_entity() treats se->deadline as a relative deadline and converts it to an absolute deadline by adding the current vruntime. 5. However, the forked entity's deadline is not a valid inherited relative deadline for this new scheduling instance, so the conversion produces an abnormally large deadline. 6. If the task later calls sched_yield(), yield_task_fair() advances se->vruntime to se->deadline. 7. The inflated vruntime is then used by the following enqueue path, where the vruntime-derived key can overflow when multiplied by the entity weight. 8. This corrupts cfs_rq->sum_w_vruntime, breaks EEVDF eligibility calculation, and can eventually make all entities appear ineligible. pick_next_entity() may then return NULL unexpectedly, leading to a later NULL dereference. A captured trace shows the effect clearly. Before yield, the entity's vruntime was around: 9834017729983308 After yield_task_fair() executed: se->vruntime = se->deadline the vruntime jumped to: 19668035460670230 and the deadline was later advanced further to: 19668035463470230 This shows that the deadline had already become abnormally large before yield_task_fair() copied it into vruntime. rel_deadline is only meaningful when se->deadline really carries a relative deadline that still needs to be placed against vruntime. A freshly forked sched_entity should not inherit or retain this state. Clear se->rel_deadline in __sched_fork(), together with the other sched_entity runtime state, so that the first enqueue does not interpret the new entity's deadline as a stale relative deadline. 2026-04-09sched/cache: Track LLC-preferred tasks per runqueueTim Chen1-0/+5
For each runqueue, track the number of tasks with an LLC preference and how many of them are running on their preferred LLC. This mirrors nr_numa_running and nr_preferred_running for NUMA balancing, and will be used by cache-aware load balancing in later patches.
