The scoped_signal_test uses pthread_join(..., (void **)&ret)) in
a couple of places, i.e. the return value of the thread is stored
in the shape of a "void *" into the memory location of &ret.
Pointers are 64-bit on modern computers, but the ret variable is
declared as a simple "enum thread_return" which is only 32 bits.
So the pthread_join() will overflow the ret variable by 4 byte.
The problem is very visible on big endian systems like s390x
where the test is failing: The least significant byte that carries
the return code of the thread is not written into the ret variable
here, but somewhere else in the stack frame, so the comparison
for the right return code is failing here.
Fix it by getting rid of the enum and defining the THREAD_* constants
and "ret" variables as proper "void *" pointers. This way we can
also get rid of some ugly (void *) castings in a couple of spots.

Enforce that TCP Fast Open is controlled by
LANDLOCK_ACCESS_NET_CONNECT_TCP. Semantics of connect() and
sendmsg(MSG_FASTOPEN) should be identical from Landlock's perspective.
Also enforce error code consistency, since UDP sockets ignore the
MSG_FASTOPEN flag while Unix sockets reject it.

For normal live cgroup_skb paths, the skb should already be routed. The
exception is for test run via BPF_PROG_TEST_RUN with packets created
via bpf_prog_test_run_skb. Those lack dst route and thus the icmp_send
would quietly fail by returning early.
This test exercises this and makes sure the kfunc returns -ENETUNREACH.

This test is similar to test_icmp_send_unreach_cgroup but checks that,
in case of recursion, meaning that the BPF program calling the kfunc was
re-triggered by the icmp_send done by the kfunc, the kfunc will stop
early and return -EBUSY.
The test attaches to the root cgroup to ensure the ICMP packet generated
by the kfunc re-triggers the BPF program.

This test opens a server and client, enters a new cgroup, attach a
cgroup_skb program on egress and calls the bpf_icmp_send function from
the client egress so that an ICMP unreach control message is sent back
to the client. It then fetches the message from the error queue to
confirm the correct ICMP unreach code has been sent.
Note that, for the client, we have to connect in non-blocking mode to
let the test execute faster. Otherwise, we need to wait for the TCP
three-way handshake to timeout in the kernel before reading the errno.
Also note that we don't set IP_RECVERR on the socket in
connect_to_fd_nonblock since the error will be transferred anyway in our
test because the connection is rejected at the beginning of the TCP
handshake. See in net/ipv4/tcp_ipv4.c:tcp_v4_err for more details.

Add the end to end testing infrastructure required to verify the
liveupdate feature. This includes a custom init process, a test
orchestration script, and a batch runner.
The framework consists of:
init.c:
A lightweight init process that manages the kexec lifecycle.
It mounts necessary filesystems, determines the current execution
stage (1 or 2) via the kernel command line, and handles the
kexec_file_load() sequence to transition between kernels.
vmtest.sh:
The primary KTAP-compliant test driver. It handles:
- Kernel configuration merging and building.
- Cross-compilation detection for x86_64 and arm64.
- Generation of the initrd containing the test binary and init.
- QEMU execution with automatic accelerator detection (KVM, HVF,
or TCG).
run-vmtests.sh:
A wrapper that runs vmtest.sh for each LUO test across supported
architectures, providing a summary of pass/fail/skip results.

USEC_PER_SEC defines"
This partially reverts commit 80fa614e2fbc ("selftests: timers: Remove
local NSEC_PER_SEC and USEC_PER_SEC defines").
The original commit removed local definitions of NSEC_PER_SEC and
USEC_PER_SEC in favor of including <include/vdso/time64.h>. However,
NSEC_PER_SEC in vdso/time64.h is defined as 1000000000L, which is
32-bit on 32-bit architectures. This causes integer overflow warnings
in several timer tests when doing arithmetic like NSEC_PER_SEC * 10 on
32-bit systems.
To fix this, restore the local definitions of NSEC_PER_SEC and
USEC_PER_SEC in the test files, but use "LL" suffix consistently
(1000000000LL and 1000000LL) to ensure 64-bit arithmetic and avoid
overflows.
We keep the cleanup from the original commit that renamed plural
definitions (NSECS_PER_SEC/USECS_PER_SEC) to singular ones in
posix_timers.c, but we now define them locally there as well.
This also removes the dependency of the selftests on the internal
kernel header <include/vdso/time64.h>.

In print_capstone_detail(), maps__find() is used to locate the kernel
map. This function increments the reference count of the found map

after the map is no longer needed, leading to a reference count leak.

Commit ae42a2a2a3ae ("perf tests: Speed up lock contention analysis shell test")
in linux-next heavily optimized the test runtimes by switching the workload from
the default of 10 process groups down to 1 (`perf bench sched messaging -g 1`).
However, this change inadvertently dropped the original `-p` flag, causing the
benchmark to default to `socketpair()` instead of `pipe()`. While `socketpair()`
still generates some lock events on x86, it fails to trigger enough samples on
architectures like s390, causing the test suite to fail due to lack of captured
data.
Restore the omitted `-p` pipe flag. The test retains the massive speedups
achieved through the `-g 1` scaling, while producing a massive density of lock
events across all architectures to fully satisfy the BPF trace filtering logic.

scx_bpf_kick_cid() returned an error code, but the value conveys nothing
actionable and no caller consumes it. The kick is asynchronous, so a
successful return only means it was queued. An invalid @cid is already
reported through scx_error() by scx_cid_to_cpu(), and a missing scheduler
leaves nothing to kick.
Make scx_bpf_kick_cid() return void to match scx_bpf_kick_cpu(). The
cid-form kfuncs are not in practical use yet, so the ABI change is safe.

cmask_equal(), cmask_weight() and cmask_subset() bounded their word walks
with CMASK_NR_WORDS(nr_cids), which pads by one word and can't tell the last
word in use without @base. The walks could thus cover a slack word past the
active range, which cmask_reframe() leaves non-zero: a stale bit there gave
cmask_equal() a spurious mismatch, cmask_weight() an inflated count, and
cmask_subset() a spurious violation. cmask_subset() could also read
@b->bits[] one word past its allocation (within the arena's fault-recovered
range, so harmless), and deviated from the kernel scx_cmask_subset() by
failing any @a range that doesn't nest inside @b's even when the overhanging
bits are all clear.
Bound the cmask_equal() and cmask_weight() walks by the words the range
actually spans, with early returns for empty ranges. Rewrite cmask_subset()
to match the kernel semantics: scan @a's overhangs for set bits with
cmask_next_set() and walk the words of the range intersection.
cmask_subset() moves below cmask_next_set(), which it now uses. Padding bits
don't need masking as every cmask helper keeps them clear.

In prog_run's run(), the bpf_link is attached early but only destroyed
on the success path. The three SCX_EQ assertions between attach and
destroy expand to a direct 'return SCX_TEST_FAIL', so if any of them
triggers, bpf_link__destroy() is never reached and the BPF scheduler
stays loaded. All subsequent tests then fail to attach because SCX is
not in the DISABLED state.
Convert those assertions to explicit checks that jump to a unified
'out' label which always runs the cleanup, matching the pattern used
in cyclic_kick_wait.c.

Add a load-failure test to the kfunc_call suite using the existing
bpf_kfunc_call_test_get_rdwr_mem() test kfunc. Its rdwr_buf_size
argument is a const int, so the test uses a 64-bit immediate load in
inline asm to place 2^64 - 192 (0xffffffffffffff40) in the argument
register. The verifier records r0_size from the full 64-bit register

In tcp_mmap.c, both child_thread() and main() allocate an EVP_MD_CTX
via EVP_MD_CTX_new() when integrity checking is enabled, but neither
function releases the context. child_thread() misses the free in its
common cleanup block, and main() returns without freeing the context.
This results in a SHA256 context leak on every run that uses the
‑i (integrity) option. Add the missing EVP_MD_CTX_free() calls to

The current kallsyms detection in dso__is_kallsyms() uses the
dso_binary_type enum which fixes the issue of kallsyms being cached in
the build-id cache for out-of-tree modules.
However, during build-id injection in perf record/inject, dso_binary_type
has not been explicitly set yet,so dso__binary_type() returns
DSO_BINARY_TYPE__NOT_FOUND instead of DSO_BINARY_TYPE__KALLSYMS for the
kernel DSO. The current check then fails to identify it as kallsyms,
causing build-id symlinks to not be created in ~/.debug/.build-id/ and
perf archive to fail with "Cannot stat" errors.
Steps to reproduce the issue:
1. rm -rf ~/.debug/.build-id
2. perf record sleep 1
3. perf archive
Fix by falling back to matching long_name against the known kallsyms
strings explicitly when binary_type is not yet set
(== DSO_BINARY_TYPE__NOT_FOUND). Use strcmp() for exact matching of
fixed names and strict validation for guest kallsyms with embedded PID
to prevent path traversal attacks.

Specifying --field-separator option is stating you want CSV output.
Passing both --field-separator and --json-output is then stating
you want output to be in CSV and JSON format at same time.
Currently this combination is not rejected, and the outcome
is a malformed combination of CSV and JSON output.
This is because of inconsistencies in various printing functions,
some of them have if-else chains that start with
"Should I print JSON?", and some start with "Should I print CSV?".
Example of current output:
$ tools/perf/perf stat -x , -j -e cpu-migrations true
{"counter-value" : "0.000000", "unit" : "", "event" : "cpu-migrations", "event-runtime" : 474817, "pcnt-running" : 100.00,,
Instead reject the option combination,
with a helpful error message and non-zero exit code.
Example of new output:
$ tools/perf/perf stat -x , -j true
cannot use both --field-separator and --json-output
Usage: perf stat [<options>] [<command>]
-x, --field-separator <separator>

-j, --json-output print counts in JSON format

The signed gen_loader no longer checks its metadata map from within
BPF; the kernel does it at BPF_PROG_LOAD by folding the loader's frozen
exclusive fd_array maps into the signature. Exercise that path end to
end. Extend with more test cases (e.g. map-less program, asserting the
LSM admission hook observes BPF_SIG_UNSIGNED and BPF_SIG_VERIFIED), and
retire the subtests that asserted the old in-loader check, which no
longer exists.

bpftool_prog_sign() signed only the loader instructions. The metadata
blob the loader installs was left to an in-loader hash check, which
the kernel now performs at load time over insns || metadata.
Sign that same concatenation: pass the metadata blob (gen_loader_opts
data) through to bpftool_prog_sign() and feed insns || metadata to
CMS_final(). The excl_prog_hash stays a digest of the instructions
alone; it binds the metadata map to the loader and is matched against
prog->digest by the verifier, independent of what the signature covers.
The signed artifact is now plain data: both bytes the signature
covers are embedded verbatim in the generated skeleton, so signing
and verifying an lskel is an ordinary CMS operation that a signer or
auditor can perform (or reproduce) offline, without analyzing loader
bytecode to establish what the signature actually attests to.

The signed gen_loader used to police its own metadata map from within
BPF: emit_signature_match() read the kernel-cached map->sha[] back
through hardcoded struct bpf_map offsets and compared it against a hash
that compute_sha_update_offsets() baked into the signed instructions,
after a BPF_OBJ_GET_INFO_BY_FD round-trip to populate map->sha[].
The kernel now verifies the metadata at BPF_PROG_LOAD time by folding
the frozen contents of the loader's exclusive fd_array maps into the
signature, so the loader no longer checks anything itself. Generated
loaders thus carry no verification logic of their own anymore: Nothing
in the signing chain depends on emitted loader bytecode doing the right
thing.
On the loading side, skel_internal.h now sets fd_array_cnt for a signed
load so the kernel scans fd_array for the exclusive metadata map -
still frozen, as the kernel requires - and the BPF_OBJ_GET_INFO_BY_FD
round-trip to populate map->sha[] is gone. The struct bpf_map layout
BUILD_BUG_ON()s on the kernel side are removed as well: they only
pinned the ABI for the in-BPF read of map->sha[] that is no longer
needed. Same for the map->excl member. Note: gen_hash is retained; it
still marks a loader as signed so an untrusted host cannot re-dimension
maps or override initial values now covered by the signature.

Unregistering a user event now defers the drop of the enabler's event
reference (and the freeing of the enabler) past an RCU grace period. As a
result DIAG_IOCSDEL can transiently fail with -EBUSY while that last
reference is still being dropped, where it previously succeeded
immediately.
Two tests assumed the delete takes effect the instant the unregister
returns:
- abi_test "flags" deletes the event right after disabling it.
- perf_test's fixture teardown clear() deletes __test_event before the
next test registers the same name; a stale event makes the following
registration fail with -EADDRINUSE.
Retry the delete until it succeeds (or the event is already gone) with a
bounded wait, matching the existing wait_for_delete() idiom in the same
suite, so the tests are robust to the deferred teardown.

Add test_trunc exercising the OVS_ACTION_ATTR_TRUNC action. The test
verifies truncation limits in four steps: reject trunc(1) and
trunc(13) which are below ETH_HLEN, confirm normal forwarding works,
apply trunc(14) which truncates packets to the Ethernet header and
verify ping fails, then restore normal forwarding and verify recovery.
The kernel requires max_len >= ETH_HLEN (14 bytes). trunc(14) sets
OVS_CB(skb)->cutlen so pskb_trim strips the IP payload at output
time; the receiver drops the runt frame and no echo reply is
generated.

Unlike the in-kernel trace_seq which uses a statically allocated buffer,
the userspace traceevent library's trace_seq uses a dynamically allocated
one. Therefore, every trace_seq_init() call must be paired with a
trace_seq_destroy(), otherwise it produces a memory leak.
In process_sample_event(), a trace_seq is initialized for each field when
formatting tracepoint raw_data, but the matching trace_seq_destroy() is
never called, leaking memory for every field of every sample processed.
Add the missing trace_seq_destroy() after using the trace_seq buffer to
properly free the allocated memory.
Detected with Valgrind on a perf.data file with 2,729 tracepoint samples:

When `perf record` samples a multi-threaded process and one of the
target threads exits during the session, perf itself may start burning
100% CPU (up to 200% across two cores) until the session ends. A
single dead fd is sufficient to trigger this; it can be reproduced with
15 pthreads in a compute loop where one thread exits halfway through.
The root cause is two independent instances of the same defect: dead
perf_event ring-buffer fds are left in a pollfd array. When a monitored
thread exits, the kernel closes its ring-buffer fd, which then returns
POLLHUP. POSIX specifies that poll() always reports POLLHUP and POLLERR
regardless of the events mask, so any dead fd left in the array makes
poll() return immediately every time, spinning in a tight loop:
3 seconds: 256,600 poll() calls, 0 context switches, only 21 write()
Woken up count goes from ~0 to 1,300,000+
There are two affected poll paths, fixed together here:
1. Record main loop, via fdarray__filter() (tools/lib/api/fd/array.c).
Since commit 59b4412f27f1 ("libperf: Avoid internal moving of
fdarray fds") it only zeroes events/revents without setting fd to
-1, so poll() keeps reporting POLLHUP for the entry. Setting
fd = -1 makes poll() skip it, matching the pattern already used in
the control-fd path at tools/perf/builtin-record.c:1673.
2. BPF sideband thread, perf_evlist__poll_thread()
(tools/perf/util/sideband_evlist.c). This thread polls for
PERF_RECORD_BPF_EVENT but, unlike the main record loop, never calls
fdarray__filter() at all, so dead fds accumulate forever and it
spins at 100% CPU:
Before fix: dJiffies=101, wchan=0 (running)
After fix: dJiffies=0, wchan=do_sys_poll (blocking)
Fixed by calling the existing evlist__filter_pollfd() helper after
evlist__poll(), mirroring the main record loop. <poll.h> is
included for the POLLERR/POLLHUP macros (previously unused there).
The two fixes compose: fix 1 makes poll() ignore dead fds (fd=-1); fix
2 ensures the sideband thread actually performs the filtering. Both
paths are affected in all kernels from v5.1/v5.9 to the current master
(7.2-rc1); the source of both functions is byte-identical across them.
BPF event recording is preserved: after the fix, perf.data still
contains PERF_RECORD_BPF_EVENT records and bpf_prog_info entries.
Verified on perf 6.1.76, 6.6.143 and 7.2-rc1 with a minimal reproducer
(Woken up 1,300,000 -> 3, CPU 100% -> 0%) and an A/B orthogonal test:
keeping the unpatched binary but preventing the target thread from
exiting also makes the storm disappear, confirming the trigger.

The ptrace_v_not_enabled test expects the child to reach its ebreak
before it has used the vector extension. That is not guaranteed when
using fork(), because libc may run child atfork handlers before
returning to the test code. In those cases PTRACE_GETREGSET for
NT_RISCV_VECTOR then succeeds instead of returning ENODATA for
inactive vector state.
Use the raw clone syscall with SIGCHLD to keep fork-like semantics
while bypassing libc's fork wrapper and atfork handler chain.

Commit 98b74e1f3104 ("kselftests: timers: leap-a-day: Change default
arguments to help test runs") replaced the -s option with -w and made
"wait for the leap second" the non-default behaviour, but it only
updated the switch/case handling. Two things were left inconsistent:
- The getopt() option string still lists 's' instead of 'w', so
passing -w is rejected as an invalid option and the new behaviour
cannot be selected at all.
- The file header comment still documents the removed -s option and
an outdated default for -i.
Fix the getopt() string to accept 'w' (matching the existing case 'w':
handler) and update the header comment to describe -w, -t and the
current -i default.
