Four entries in sysfs-bus-cxl use braced globs to document groups of
attributes. Where the glob factors out a common prefix, as in
cap_{pmem,ram,type2,type3}, no individual attribute name appears in
the file at all and none can be found by grep or get_abi.py search. In
every case the glob also keys get_abi.py validate on the glob string,
so duplicates against separately documented attributes go undetected.
Replace the globs with consecutive What: lines for each attribute.
These lines continue to share the existing metadata and description
and follow the format used in sysfs-driver-ufs and sysfs-bus-iio.
Also restore one missing blank line between entries.
Verify with:
python3 tools/docs/get_abi.py -D Documentation/ABI/testing validate
python3 tools/docs/get_abi.py search cap_pmem
python3 tools/docs/get_abi.py search create_ram_region
validate reports no sysfs-bus-cxl warning, and both searches now return
the stanza where they returned nothing before.

- Documented the 'regulators', 'charger' and 'pwrbutton' child nodes,
which are used by the boards but were missing from the old txt

- Documented the 'interrupts', 'interrupt-controller', '#interrupt-cells'
and 'ti,pmic-shutdown-controller' properties, which are used by the

Overriding the idle mechanism might be useful for debugging and performance
testing. Add a cmdline parameter for it, similar to the existing idle=
parameter already present for the x86 and ppc architectures.
It is also useful on platforms where the WFI instruction misbehaves,
such as Apple Silicon SoCs. Generally, a misbehaving instruction should
be treated as an erratum and patched using the alternatives framework.
However, in the Apple Silicon case we need more flexibility because it is
difficult to detect whether the erratum applies. For example, Linux VMs
inside macOS have the same MIDR and may even seem like they're running
in EL2 in the case of NV, but should continue using WFI (it's trapped and
handled correctly by the hypervisor there). Thus, we prefer to
let the m1n1 bootloader add the idle=nop parameter[1].

rtnl_fill_vf() emits one IFLA_VF_INFO per VF into the IFLA_VFINFO_LIST
nest and closes it with nla_nest_end(), which stores the accumulated
length into nla_len. That field is a u16, so a nest larger than 65535
bytes is written truncated modulo 65536. The list dates back to commit
c02db8c6290b ("rtnetlink: make SR-IOV VF interface symmetric") in 2010
and has never been able to describe an arbitrary number of VFs; nothing
regressed, the encoding simply cannot represent it.
Nothing catches it on the way. if_nlmsg_size() adds rtnl_vfinfo_size()
for every VF, so the skb really is large enough and none of the nla_put()
calls fails. Userspace then walks the message with RTA_NEXT(), which
advances by the stored length, so parsing resumes inside VF payload and
the attributes after the nest are read out of VF data: IFLA_VF_PORTS,
IFLA_XDP, IFLA_LINKINFO, IFLA_PERM_ADDRESS, IFLA_AF_SPEC. iproute2
prints "!!!Deficit" and strictly validating parsers reject the message.
On CONFIG_DEBUG_NET kernels nla_nest_end() also splats, via the
DEBUG_NET_WARN_ON_ONCE() added in commit ff205bf8c554 ("netlink: add one
debug check in nla_nest_end()").
Where the wrap falls depends on what was asked for and on the host. A VF
costs 196 bytes, 296 with statistics, 236 with GUIDs and 336 with both,
and on a kernel without CONFIG_HAVE_EFFICIENT_UNALIGNED_ACCESS the
statistics carry a padding attribute each and cost 32 bytes more, making
those two 328 and 368. The nest therefore overflows somewhere between 179
and 335 VFs, and ice allows 256 per PF (ICE_MAX_SRIOV_VFS), which reaches
it. Statistics are included unless the request sets
RTEXT_FILTER_SKIP_STATS, so the common case is the one that wraps first.
A limit that moves with the requested attribute set and with the host's
alignment requirements is not something userspace can be told, so use
fixed numbers instead and document them as what the interface supports:
256 VFs, or 128 when statistics are included. Both stay well inside
U16_MAX even in the largest per-VF encoding, at 60416 and 47104 bytes
respectively. rtnl_vfinfo_cap() applies the cap in both places, so
rtnl_vfinfo_size() does not size the skb for VFs that will not be
emitted.
A device with more VFs than the limit reports a shorter
IFLA_VFINFO_LIST. IFLA_NUM_VF keeps carrying the real count, and
everything after the nest stays parsable, which is the part that is
broken today. An empty nest is already emitted for a PF with no VFs, so a
list shorter than IFLA_NUM_VF is not a new encoding.
Returning -EMSGSIZE instead, which is what nla_nest_end_safe() would
give, is not an option here: a nest that does not fit in a u16 will not
fit in a retried skb either, so it would turn a link dump on such a
device into a hard failure.
The other large nests in rtnl_fill_ifinfo() were audited and cannot
overflow. IFLA_AF_SPEC is bounded by a handful of address families at
about a kilobyte each, and IFLA_VF_PORTS would need more than 560 VFs,
which no in-tree driver allows.

TLV (type, length, value) files are the new image format used by Nova

Add function request_tlv() to load TLV firmware images.
Add the Tlv struct and supporting types for parsing TLV firmware images.
TLV files begin with a 4-byte magic header, which must be "NVFW" for
Nvidia firmware files. This is followed by a sequence of blocks each
containing a 4-byte ASCII tag, a 4-byte little-endian length, and a
payload padded to a 4-byte boundary.
Tlv::new() validates the entire image up front, so that the iterator can

cxl/test: Assign one mock memdev a full-width serial number
cxl/core: Format the memdev serial number as unsigned in TP_printk
cxl/pmem: Format the nvdimm serial number as unsigned decimal
|
|
The CXL NVDIMM security passphrase key description and the nvdimm 'id'
sysfs attribute are both derived from the CXL device serial number,
but the serial number is not formatted consistently.
The key description is formatted in hexadecimal while the 'id'
attribute is formatted in decimal. As a result, ndctl stores the key
using a decimal description while the kernel later looks it up using
a hexadecimal description. For serial numbers of 10 and above, the
descriptions no longer match, preventing automatic unlock after
reboot.
The decimal formatting has a second problem: both the key description
and the 'id' attribute use the signed %lld format for a u64 PCIe
Device Serial Number. Devices whose vendor OUI sets bit 63, such as
Montage CXL devices, appear with negative decimal serial numbers.
Format the security key description and 'id' attribute as unsigned
decimal, %llu, and document that the 'id' attribute is an unsigned
decimal value.
The key lookup mismatch was exposed by CXL unit test cxl-security.sh
when cxl_test mock serial numbers were extended to 10 and above.
A work around is described for ndctl load-key users here:

Using interrupts and scheduling workers increase latency so latency
critical applications may want to avoid that. Make this possible in
USB4STREAM by adding a new ConfigFS attribute: busy_poll that, when
activated switches the rings to polling mode. The cost for lower latency
is that this burns more CPU cycles and things like poll(2) cannot be
used.

hmm_range_fault() requires the caller to hold the mmap read lock for the
duration of the call. This is incompatible with mappings whose fault
handler may release the mmap lock, notably userfaultfd-managed regions,
where handle_mm_fault() can return VM_FAULT_RETRY or VM_FAULT_COMPLETED
after dropping the lock. Drivers that need to populate device page tables
for such mappings have no way to do so today.
Add hmm_range_fault_unlocked_timeout() for callers that do not need to
hold mmap_lock across any work outside the HMM fault itself. The helper
takes mmap_read_lock_killable() internally, calls the common HMM fault
implementation, and releases the lock before returning if it is still
held. The timeout is specified in jiffies; passing 0 retries
indefinitely, while a non-zero timeout makes the helper return -EBUSY when
the retry budget expires. The retry deadline is set before refreshing the
notifier sequence and acquiring mmap_lock, so contended mmap_lock
acquisition is included in the retry budget. After acquiring mmap_lock,
the helper also rejects unstable address spaces before walking page
tables.
When handle_mm_fault() drops mmap_lock, or when the range is invalidated,
hmm_range_fault_unlocked_timeout() refreshes range->notifier_seq and
retries the walk internally. If the lock was dropped, the retry deadline
is also restarted because a lock-dropping fault handler made progress.
Ordinary -EBUSY retries keep the existing deadline, preserving the
caller's timeout policy for repeated mmu-notifier invalidations.
The caller only needs to perform the usual post-success
mmu_interval_read_retry() check while holding its update lock before
consuming the pfns. If mmap_lock acquisition is interrupted or a fatal
signal is pending during retry handling, -EINTR is returned instead.
The common implementation conditionally sets FAULT_FLAG_ALLOW_RETRY and
FAULT_FLAG_KILLABLE only for hmm_range_fault_unlocked_timeout(). The
existing hmm_range_fault() path still passes no locked state, does not
allow handle_mm_fault() to drop mmap_lock, and remains a thin wrapper
preserving the existing API contract for current callers.
The previous refactor that moved page fault handling out of the page-table
walk callbacks is what makes this change small. Faults now run after
walk_page_range() has unwound, with only mmap_lock held, so dropping it
does not interact with the walker's pte spinlock or hugetlb_vma_lock.
Hugetlb regions therefore participate in the unlocked path uniformly with
PTE- and PMD-level mappings; no special case is required.
Documentation/mm/hmm.rst is updated with a description of the new API and
the recommended caller pattern.

PAGEMAP_SCAN already reports PAGE_IS_WRITTEN from the inverted uffd PTE
bit, targeting the UFFDIO_WRITEPROTECT workflow. UFFDIO_RWPROTECT reuses
the same PTE bit as a marker for read-write protection, but "has been
written" and "has been accessed" are distinct semantic signals — they
happen to share one PTE bit today only because the two implementations
share infrastructure.
Give RWP its own pagemap category so the UAPI does not conflate them:
PAGE_IS_WRITTEN reported on VM_UFFD_WP VMAs, !pte_uffd(pte)
PAGE_IS_ACCESSED reported on VM_UFFD_RWP VMAs, !pte_uffd(pte)
Both still read the same PTE bit today, but each is scoped to the VMA
whose registered mode makes the bit meaningful. If a future
implementation moves RWP to a separate PTE bit, only PAGE_IS_ACCESSED
switches over.
This is a UAPI narrowing. Outside VM_UFFD_WP VMAs the uffd bit is always
clear, so PAGEMAP_SCAN used to flag PAGE_IS_WRITTEN on every present PTE
there — a meaningless duplicate of PAGE_IS_PRESENT. Now PAGE_IS_WRITTEN
fires only inside VM_UFFD_WP VMAs.
pagemap_hugetlb_category() now takes the vma like its PTE/PMD peers.

Add the userspace interface for read-write protection tracking:
- UFFDIO_REGISTER_MODE_RWP register a range for RWP tracking
- UFFD_FEATURE_RWP capability bit
- UFFDIO_RWPROTECT install / remove RWP on a range
Introduce CONFIG_USERFAULTFD_RWP, auto-selected on 64-bit kernels with
ARCH_HAS_PTE_PROTNONE and HAVE_ARCH_USERFAULTFD_WP. The symbol gates
VM_UFFD_RWP (previously aliased to VM_NONE) and the smaps/trace-flag hooks
added in the preparatory patches; without it the UAPI bits added here have
nothing to drive and would be unreachable.
Registration sets VM_UFFD_RWP on the VMA. Combining MODE_WP with MODE_RWP
is rejected because both modes claim the uffd PTE bit.
UFFDIO_RWPROTECT is the bidirectional counterpart of
UFFDIO_WRITEPROTECT:
- MODE_RWP change_protection() with MM_CP_UFFD_RWP
installs PAGE_NONE and sets the uffd bit on
present PTEs
- !MODE_RWP change_protection() with MM_CP_UFFD_RWP_RESOLVE
restores vma->vm_page_prot and clears the bit
userfaultfd_clear_vma() runs the same resolve pass on unregister so RWP
state cannot outlive the uffd.
Re-registering a range must not drop a mode that installs per-PTE markers
(WP or RWP); doing so returns -EBUSY. This also closes a pre-existing
window where re-registering without MODE_WP would strand uffd-wp markers:
before, those caused extra write-faults but were otherwise benign; with
RWP preservation in place, a subsequent mprotect() on a VM_UFFD_RWP VMA
would silently promote the stale markers to RWP.
The feature is not yet advertised. UFFDIO_REGISTER_MODE_RWP,
UFFD_FEATURE_RWP, and _UFFDIO_RWPROTECT are intentionally absent from
UFFD_API_REGISTER_MODES, UFFD_API_FEATURES, and UFFD_API_RANGE_IOCTLS, so
UFFDIO_API masks them out and the register-mode validator rejects the bit.
The follow-up patch adds fault dispatch and exposes the UAPI.

Preparatory patch for userfaultfd read-write protection (RWP). RWP
extends userfaultfd protection from plain write-protection (WP) to full
read-write protection: accesses to an RWP-protected range -- reads as well
as writes -- trap through userfaultfd.
Reserve VM_UFFD_RWP, add the userfaultfd_rwp() and userfaultfd_protected()
helpers, and wire up the smaps "ur" entry and the trace-flag table the
rest of the series will use. The flag is gated on CONFIG_USERFAULTFD_RWP,
which is introduced together with the UAPI in a later patch; until then
VM_UFFD_RWP aliases VM_NONE and every downstream check folds to dead code.
Nothing sets or queries the flag yet.

* ensure TCP global variables are initialized before they can be
accessed via netlink (e.g. when attaching a TCP socket)
